What Your Router Does

The router is the box from your internet company, usually with blinking lights. It sends the internet around your home by radio, which is called Wi-Fi.

Network name and key

The network name (often called SSID) and Wi-Fi password (often called the key) are printed on a sticker on the router.

Step by step

  1. Find your router; it is often near the phone socket.
  2. Look for the sticker with the network name and password.
  3. Check the lights: a steady green or white light usually means all is well.
  4. Take a photo of the sticker so you have the details handy.

Common mistakes

  • Moving or unplugging the router cables while cleaning.

Try it yourself

  • Find your router and its sticker.
