Step by step
- Open the App Store (iPhone) or Play Store (Android) and search for WhatsApp Messenger.
- Check it is made by WhatsApp LLC, then install it.
- Open it, agree to the terms and enter your mobile number.
- Type the six-digit code WhatsApp texts you. Never give this code to anyone.
- Add your name and an optional photo.
Common mistakes
- Sharing the WhatsApp setup code with someone who messages you for it. That lets them take over your account.
